New Delhi: The Union Government has revised the guidelines for the Rs 10,900 crore PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme, introducing new deadlines and capping incentives for electric two-wheelers and electric three-wheelers.
The Chenab Times has learned that under the revised scheme, electric two-wheelers registered until July 31, 2026, and electric three-wheelers, including e-rickshaws and e-carts, registered until March 31, 2028, will be eligible for incentives. The previous deadlines were subject to change, and the revision aims to provide clarity and extended periods for manufacturers and consumers.
The maximum ex-factory price eligible for an incentive has been set at Rs 1.5 lakh for electric two-wheelers. For electric three-wheelers, such as e-rickshaws and e-carts, the price cap is Rs 2.5 lakh.
The PM E-DRIVE Scheme operates on a fund-limited basis, with the total payout restricted to the allocated outlay of Rs 10,900 crore. According to a notification from the Ministry of Heavy Industries, the scheme or its relevant sub-components will be closed if the funds are exhausted before the terminal dates, meaning no further claims will be entertained.
The notification specified that the terminal date for registered electric two-wheelers is July 31, 2026. For registered electric three-wheelers (e-rickshaws and e-carts), the terminal date is March 31, 2028. A terminal date signifies the final cut-off for an action or registration to qualify for the scheme’s benefits.
It was also noted that the target for registered electric three-wheelers (L5 category) has already been achieved, leading to the closure of this segment on December 26, 2025. The scheme has capped the maximum number of registered vehicles to be supported at 24,79,120 for electric two-wheelers and 39,034 for e-Rickshaws and e-Carts.
