The Jammu Division of Northern Railway has collected approximately Rs 62 lakh in revenue during March, the concluding month of the financial year 2025–26, following a comprehensive campaign targeting ticketless and irregular travel. The operations apprehended nearly 11,000 passengers for travelling without valid tickets or for violating railway regulations.
Intensive Campaign Yields Significant Revenue
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the extensive ticket checking operations were conducted across various locations within the Jammu Division. The drive was initiated with the objective of enhancing passenger compliance with travel rules, instilling discipline within the railway system, and ultimately boosting revenue collection for the division.
The campaign, operating under a “Zero Tolerance” policy and overseen by senior railway official Uchit Singhal, involved meticulous checks at key railway stations, including Jammu, Katra, Srinagar, Pathankot Cantt, and Badgam. The focus was particularly on entry and exit points to effectively intercept individuals attempting to travel without proper documentation.
Navratri Period Sees Heightened Vigilance
Special measures were implemented during the Navratri festival period, a time when passenger traffic typically surges significantly. Despite the increased volume of travellers, the ticket checking teams maintained a high level of vigilance. Their efforts were directed at identifying individuals travelling without authorization while simultaneously ensuring that legitimate passengers experienced a smooth and uninterrupted journey.
Railway officials noted that March often presents a challenge due to the heightened travel demand, but the coordinated efforts of the ticket checking staff were instrumental in enforcing regulations effectively. The division attributed the substantial revenue generation to sustained monitoring and the imposition of strict penalties on individuals found in violation of railway travel rules.
Call for Passenger Compliance
Railway authorities have issued a clear advisory to passengers, urging them to travel with valid tickets at all times. The statement reiterated that engaging in ticketless travel is an offense punishable under the provisions of the Railways Act, 1989. To facilitate easier and more convenient ticket procurement, passengers were also encouraged to utilize digital and automated ticketing platforms, such as the UTS mobile application, Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), and the RailOne app.
