Shimla police have successfully dismantled a significant inter-state drug network with the arrest of its primary supplier, who was apprehended in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. This operation marks another success in the ongoing intensified crackdown against illicit drug trafficking in the region.
The Chenab Times has learned that the accused, identified as Salman Haider, aged 39, is a resident of Rasoolpur Said village in Bijnor district. His arrest is a culmination of an investigation that began following the apprehension of two individuals with a substantial quantity of heroin.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the operation was initiated on March 26 when Shimla police intercepted Pinku Ram, 36, and Sahil Puharta, 24, in the Rohru area. The duo was found in possession of 53.13 grams of heroin, leading to the registration of a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Shimla Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Singh stated that subsequent investigations, encompassing technical analysis, examination of call detail records (CDR), scrutiny of financial transactions, and intensive interrogation of the arrested individuals, revealed the existence of a broader inter-state drug supply chain.
Further investigation indicated that Pinku Ram served as the local distributor for Salman Haider. Haider, who had previously worked as a mechanic in Rohru, had cultivated a network of local contacts during his stay, facilitating the establishment of the drug supply route. He was reportedly responsible for supplying large quantities of heroin to Pinku, who in turn distributed it to local youths.
Acting on this crucial intelligence, a dedicated police team was dispatched to Uttar Pradesh. Following a coordinated effort, Salman Haider was successfully apprehended in Bijnor and subsequently brought back to Shimla. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities seeking to uncover the full extent of the network and identify other individuals involved in the illicit trade.
The modus operandi of the network involved the transportation of heroin from Uttar Pradesh to Himachal Pradesh, where it was distributed and sold, primarily targeting the youth. Police officials have emphasized their commitment to eradicating drug menace from the state and are pursuing all leads to dismantle such criminal enterprises. The successful operation underscores the effectiveness of inter-state police cooperation in tackling drug trafficking.
