Srinagar Police Attaches Drug Peddler’s House Under NDPS Act

Srinagar Police has attached a residential house and land valued at approximately Rs 1.20 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler in Srinagar. The action, taken as part of the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan,’ signifies a sustained crackdown against drug trafficking and narcotics-related activities within the region.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, the attached property is registered under the name of Adil Manzoor Bhat, also known as Watson, son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, residing in Pamposh Colony, Noorbagh, Srinagar. Bhat is implicated in Case FIR No. 48/2022, registered at Police Station Safakadal under sections 8/21/22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused is currently on bail granted by the court.

The attachment was executed under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985, following the approval of the competent authority, the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (SAFEMA) in New Delhi. The operation was carried out by a dedicated police team from Police Post Noorbagh, operating under the direct supervision of senior police officers, ensuring adherence to all legal procedures and formalities.

This move by Srinagar Police underscores its unwavering commitment to eradicating the pervasive menace of drugs from society. Authorities have issued a stern warning to all individuals involved in narcotics trafficking, emphasizing that stringent legal actions, including the forfeiture of illegally acquired properties, will continue to be enforced under the prevailing laws. The police department reiterated its resolve to dismantle drug networks operating within the Union Territory.

Srinagar Police has also appealed to the general public for their active cooperation. Citizens are encouraged to share any information related to drug peddling or other narcotics-related activities with their nearest police establishment. This collaboration is deemed crucial in the collective effort to build a drug-free society and safeguard the well-being of the community. The police assured that all information provided would be handled with utmost confidentiality.

The Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan aims to combat drug abuse through a multi-pronged approach involving law enforcement, rehabilitation, and public awareness campaigns. The attachment of assets belonging to drug peddlers is a key component of this strategy, designed to disrupt the financial backbone of illegal drug operations and deter potential offenders.

Previous actions under this campaign have included increased surveillance, thorough investigations into drug trafficking networks, and the apprehension of individuals involved in the trade. The administration has stressed that all legal avenues will be explored to seize assets derived from illicit drug trade, thereby removing the incentive for such criminal activities. The focus remains on dismantling the entire ecosystem that supports drug peddling, from suppliers to local distributors.

The successful attachment of Bhat’s property serves as a significant development in the ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse in Srinagar. It highlights the effectiveness of legal provisions like the NDPS Act in immobilizing the financial resources of drug traffickers and sending a strong message to those engaged in this harmful trade. The police continue to maintain vigilance across the district, responding to intelligence inputs and public complaints with promptness.
