Jammu & Kashmir: Shubhankar Pathak Assigned Additional Charge of Red Cross General Secretary

JAMMU: Shubhankar Pratyush Pathak, Additional Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, has been assigned the additional responsibility of General Secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory branch. The Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat issued an order formalizing this arrangement.

The Chenab Times has learned that the additional charge has been given following the completion of the tenure of Rohit Khajuria as the General Secretary of the IRCS, J&K UT branch, which concluded on May 31, 2026. Mr. Pathak assumed his new duties on June 1, 2026, alongside his existing responsibilities as Additional Secretary.

This administrative decision aims to ensure continuity in the leadership and operations of the Indian Red Cross Society in the Union Territory. The IRCS plays a crucial role in providing humanitarian aid and services across various districts, particularly in times of distress and natural calamities. Its activities often involve organizing blood donation camps, health awareness programs, and providing relief to vulnerable populations.

The appointment signifies a temporary but important shift in responsibilities for Mr. Pathak, who will oversee the strategic and operational aspects of the Red Cross Society in J&K until further directives are issued. The Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat, as the administrative body overseeing such appointments, ensures that key organizational roles are filled promptly to maintain efficient functioning.

The Indian Red Cross Society, J&K UT branch, operates under the broader national and international framework of the Red Cross movement, which is dedicated to preventing and alleviating human suffering without discrimination. The organization relies on a network of volunteers and staff to carry out its mandate across the region. The assignment of Mr. Pathak to this role is expected to bring his administrative acumen to bear on the society’s ongoing efforts.

Mr. Khajuria, who served as the General Secretary prior to this change, had been instrumental in guiding the society’s initiatives during his term. The transition is a standard administrative procedure, allowing for fresh perspectives and continued dedication to the humanitarian cause.
