A Delhi court on Tuesday granted interim protection to singer and actor Sapna Choudhary in proceedings initiated under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act against her husband. The court issued an order restraining him from contacting or approaching her until the next date of hearing, acknowledging Choudhary’s concerns for her personal safety and professional commitments ahead of her film’s premiere.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, Judicial Magistrate Nidhi Singh was presiding over the plea filed by Choudhary, who was represented by her counsel, advocate Preeti Singh. The plea sought interim relief due to the imminent release of her film and Choudhary’s apprehension regarding potential disruptions to her professional life and personal security.
In its order, the court stated, “Respondent (Choudhary’s husband) is restrained from approaching the petitioner in any manner till the next date of hearing. Respondent is restrained from contacting the petitioner in any manner or visiting her place of residence or work and committing any act of domestic violence till the NDOH (next date of hearing).”
Choudhary’s counsel argued that denying immediate relief could expose her to irreparable harm, negatively impact her dignity and safety, and interfere with her professional engagements, including her scheduled appearance at the film premiere. The submissions highlighted the potential for significant personal and professional damage if the relief was not granted.
After reviewing the petition, affidavit, and the evidence presented, which included photographs of alleged injuries and electronic proof, the court determined that sufficient grounds existed at the preliminary stage to issue a summons to the respondent and grant the interim relief requested by Choudhary. The court found merit in the petitioner’s concerns and the potential consequences of delayed action.
The court further directed the relevant protection officer and the local station house officer (SHO) to oversee the implementation of its orders and to provide all necessary assistance to the petitioner to ensure her safety and compliance with the court’s directives. This measure aimed to provide a tangible layer of security for Choudhary.
The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on July 25, at which point the court will consider the case in more detail and potentially issue further orders. The interim protection order remains in effect until this next court appearance.
