Uttar Pradesh: Ayodhya Unveils World’s First Ramayana Wax Museum

Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh – The spiritual city of Ayodhya has introduced a significant new attraction with the inauguration of the world’s first Ramayana-themed wax museum. This unique establishment aims to bring the epic narrative of the Ramayana to life for visitors through a blend of lifelike wax figures, immersive special effects, and thematic design.

Ramayana Wax Museum Opens Doors in Ayodhya

The newly opened museum, located on the Chaudah Kosi Parikrama route opposite Kashiram Colony, spans 9,850 square feet and was constructed at a cost of approximately ₹6 crore to ₹10 crore, according to various reports. It features 50 meticulously crafted wax statues depicting major characters from the Ramayana, including Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, Hanuman, and Ravana, alongside key figures like Vibhishan and Bharat. These figures are presented in various poses and scenes, illustrating pivotal moments from the epic, from Lord Ram’s childhood and Sita’s swayamvar on the ground floor to his exile, Lanka Dahan, and the climactic battle with Ravana on the first floor.

The museum’s design incorporates South Indian architectural elements, featuring a gopuram and sculpted pillars. To enhance the visitor experience, 3D lighting effects, dramatic soundscapes, and even the subtle fragrance of sandalwood are employed to transport attendees to the Treta Yuga, the era in which the Ramayana is set. The atmosphere is further enriched with devotional music and Ram bhajans playing throughout the premises.

Immersive Experience and Visitor Amenities

Designed to provide an engaging and educational experience, the museum allows a maximum of 100 visitors at a time to ensure a comfortable and immersive visit. The interiors are climate-controlled, maintained at a steady 22°C to preserve the wax figures and ensure visitor comfort. An entry fee of ₹100 has been set for access to the museum.

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by an idol of Lord Ganesha. The museum also includes a special selfie point near the statue of the child Ram, offering a unique photo opportunity for families and tourists. The museum’s development was undertaken in collaboration with Sunil Wax Museum, a Kerala-based firm recognized for its work on celebrity wax museums in locations such as Lonavala and Thiruvananthapuram.

Boosting Tourism and Cultural Heritage

The inauguration of the Ramayana Wax Museum is part of a broader strategy to position Ayodhya as a significant global religious and cultural hub, complementing the presence of the Ram Temple. Municipal officials anticipate that the museum will substantially boost religious tourism and create employment opportunities for local residents. A portion of the museum’s revenue, approximately 12%, is allocated to the Ayodhya Municipal Corporation to support local development initiatives.

In addition to the main exhibition, the museum complex is planned to include facilities such as a coffee house, snack zones, an entertainment area, and dedicated parking, aiming to offer a comprehensive experience for visitors. The project is seen as a significant step in enriching Ayodhya’s appeal as a destination that celebrates India’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
