The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has intensified its organizational efforts for a significant Panthic gathering scheduled for July 5 in Amritsar. The congregation is being convened in response to a controversial video involving Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and subsequent directives from the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhism.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami and Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Tek Singh have been actively engaging with leaders of various Sikh organizations and sects. Invitation letters have been distributed, urging widespread participation in the congregation to be held at Gurdwara Manji Sahib Diwan Hall in Amritsar.
During these consultations, SGPC leaders met with prominent religious figures including Shiromani Panth Akali Budha Dal chief Balbir Singh, Ghala Singh Nanaksar Kaleran, Hakam Singh, Resham Singh Barnala, and Jagjit Singh Lopon Wale, among other religious leaders. These meetings aimed to garner support and ensure broad representation at the upcoming event.
According to the SGPC, the discussions encompassed critical challenges facing Panthic institutions and other pertinent Sikh issues. A strong appeal was made for substantial participation in the July 5 gathering, particularly in light of the situation that has arisen following the Akal Takht’s declaration labeling Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as “Guru Dokhi” (one who disrespects the Guru) and “anti-Khalsa Panth.”
Addressing a meeting of Sant Samaj leaders at the historic Gurdwara Nankiana Sahib, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami stated that the committee is diligently conveying the Akal Takht Sahib’s directives to every village and household across Punjab. The objective is to comprehensively inform the Sikh community about the incumbent government’s alleged stance against Panthic interests.
Dhami elaborated that the July 5 congregation has been specifically convened to solicit the collective opinion of the Panth and to chart a decisive course of action for the future. He emphasized that the directives of the Akal Takht are considered supreme by every Sikh, underscoring the necessity of collectively identifying and confronting forces that are perceived to be working against Sikh institutions and the Panth.
The SGPC president expressed confidence that the July 5 gathering would serve as a powerful symbol of Sikh unity and resilience in the face of current challenges. Jathedar Giani Tek Singh, echoing these sentiments, appealed to all Sikh organizations to mobilize maximum participation from their respective areas and attend the congregation in large numbers.
Representatives from the Sant Samaj assured the SGPC leadership of their unwavering commitment to abide by every directive issued by the Akal Takht. The intensified mobilization efforts indicate the seriousness with which the SGPC and associated religious bodies are approaching the issues at hand, seeking to consolidate community opinion and response.
