SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Aijaz Ahmad Shah, a leader associated with the BJP Kisan Morcha, in the Tral police station of Pulwama district. The case has been filed under Sections 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the alleged offences occurred in 2022, prior to the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) which replaced the IPC in July 2024. Officials stated that the FIR pertains to a complaint where Shah allegedly accepted money from an individual with the promise of assisting with a police-related matter.
Shah, who was appointed as the vice president of the Pulwama Kisan Morcha in November of the previous year, has reportedly been the subject of eight previous cases filed across at least four police stations within the district since 2016. The current FIR marks the third case registered against him this year.
This development follows a similar action taken by the police last week. On August 11, an FIR was registered against Showkat Gayoor, the BJP Pulwama district president, on charges of alleged extortion and threats. Following this, the BJP had suspended Gayoor from all party positions pending a thorough disciplinary review.
When contacted for comment on the latest case involving Aijaz Ahmad Shah, BJP leader Altaf Thakur, who also resides in the Tral area, declined to offer any remarks.
