Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir: Medical interns at the Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag have strongly condemned the issuance of show-cause notices to two student representatives. The notices were reportedly served in connection with ongoing protests by interns demanding their rightful stipend dues.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the interns voiced deep concern over the administration’s decision to single out the representatives, Dr. Mohammad Akib Javid and Dr. Runga Zamin Javaid, from the larger group of protesting students. According to the interns, these representatives were merely acting as conduits for the collective grievances of their peers.
The medical interns emphasized that raising legitimate concerns and articulating the collective issues of students should not be misconstrued as gross indiscipline or professional misconduct. The show-cause notices, issued by the GMC Anantnag administration, warn of potential repercussions including the curtailment, temporary suspension, or even outright cancellation of the internship period for the concerned students.
Medical interns stated that the language used in the notices is perceived as intimidating, fostering an atmosphere of fear among those who are simply advocating for their due rights. They asserted that student representation and the articulation of legitimate concerns are fundamental aspects of academic and professional engagement and should not be equated with acts of insubordination.
The protesting interns urged the college administration and relevant authorities to engage in constructive dialogue with the student representatives rather than resorting to threats of punitive action. The statement highlighted that while the interns maintain respect for the institution and its leadership, this respect should be reciprocated.
Appealing for a resolution through open communication, the intern students called upon the administration to withdraw the show-cause notices. They stressed the importance of addressing the stipend issue through meaningful dialogue and a collaborative approach, eschewing coercion or intimidation tactics.
The student body reiterated its unwavering support for their representatives, stating, “Our representatives will not be abandoned. We stand united, and our demand for justice, dignity and a fair stipend will continue peacefully and democratically.” The collective demand underscores a unified stance among the interns regarding their rights and welfare.
