The period encompassing Navratri and Dussehra holds considerable significance for the residents of Ludhiana, with numerous melas and carnivals traditionally organized across various locations. Prominent Dussehra melas, which typically draw large gatherings, are held at Daresi Grounds, Vardhman Chowk, Government College for Girls, Agar Nagar, and the Sarabha Nagar Durga Mata Mandir, among other popular sites.

Ludhiana is home to a substantial migrant population originating from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, for whom Dussehra celebrations hold deep religious and cultural importance. These communities often visit mela grounds in large numbers with their families to partake in the festivities.

The Dussehra celebrations are characterized by the burning of massive effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnad, which are often filled with firecrackers and other explosives. Beyond this central ritual, the melas feature a variety of attractions including swings, food stalls, magic shows, and numerous games, all contributing to the vibrant atmosphere.

Given the anticipated large influx of visitors to these melas, adequate arrangements for entry and exit points are crucial. These measures are essential to facilitate safe and swift evacuation in the event of any emergency, ensuring that crowds can be managed effectively under all circumstances.
