Accused In Weapons Dropping Case Dies In Jammu’s Kotbalwal Jail

A suspected member of a militant module involved in collection and ferrying of weapons and explosives dropped via drones along the International Border in Jammu frontier died after suffering a heart attack in the Kotbalwal jail in Jammu, officials said.

The accused was taken into custody earlier this month by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is looking into the module connected to the explosive dropping case in Kathua on May 29.

“Muni Mohmmad, an undertrial prisoner, was offering “namaz” with the other convicts when he suddenly passed out. He was shifted to a hospital where he was declared dead,” an officer told PTI, adding that he suffered a heart attack.

The 36-year-old Muni, a resident of Kathua district’s Rampura village, was charged under the IPC’s Sections 121 (waging war, attempting to wage war, or aiding in the waging of war against the Government of India), 121a (conspiracy) and 122 (collecting weapons with the intent to wage war against the Government of India), the Explosive Substance Act, Sections 16 (recruits any person or persons for commission ofof a terrorist act), 18 (hatching conspiracy) and 20 (being member of terrorist organisation) of UAPA and sent to Kotbalwal jail on August 10.

The case was re-registered by the NIA on July 30 after being initially registered at the Rajbagh police station in Kathua on May 29.

In connection with its investigation into Pakistani drones dropping weapons along the international border, the NIA conducted searches in five districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, an official said.

Police said that the module, which had been in use for more than two years, was responsible for collecting and transporting explosives and weapons that had been dropped along the international border by drones on the Pakistani side.
