Security forces have entered the fifth day of a relentless operation in the Kokernag area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, as they continue to encircle a hilly forest region in pursuit of suspected militants. The operation took a perilous turn when a fire erupted near the terrorist hideout, according to a report by News18.
This operation commenced on Wednesday, tragically claiming the lives of four dedicated individuals: Colonel Manpreet Singh, Commanding Officer of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles; Major Ashish Dhonchak; Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Humayun Bhat; and a soldier. Their sacrifice underscores the gravity of the mission at hand.
The operation intensified on Saturday, as security forces unleashed a massive assault employing mortar shells, aiming to root out the militants responsible for the fatal attack on the four security personnel.
The number of militants holed up in the forested region is estimated to be two or three, and they have proven to be elusive and dangerous adversaries.
