Pahari is a link language between communities attributing same ethnic norms, sharing tradition of moving Dhoks: PCC

A virtual meeting of the Pahari core committee (PCC) (an amalgam of 22 languages/dialects and 15 literary groups) was held here today in Jammu. The Phari Core Committee (PCC) has made it clear that Pahari is spoken in Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban and its speakers are the ethnic groups of pahari who speak it as a link language between varying communities.

Speaking in the meeting, President Core Committee for Language Movement (Pahari Core Committee) Sadaket Malik said that to be a pahari, there is a prerequisite condition that one should have ethnic relevance like visiting Dhoks, speaking a particular language and the pahari dwellers fulfil all these conditions. He referred to Fredrick Drew, GA Grierson, Ghram Bailey, Petterhook, and SP Vaid, who have mentioned the inhabitants of the pahari dwellers as pahari people in their research, particularly in LSI.

Those who spoke in the meeting included A M Bichoo, Chairman of the Pahari Advisory Group, Ashraf Katoch, General Secretary, and Shiv Narayan Singh Chib Secretary, said that we are literary and legally pahari, sharing the same ethenic characteristics, so we owe it to ourselves to work on the revival of the script of the same. They believed that ethnic groups such as Kashmiris and Gujjars were essential to the ethos of phari culture.

They said that Pahari is the link language spoken here in the entire region, and we often visit Dhoks for pastoral purposes.

The core committee, which consists of hundreds of intellectuals, lawyers, and social activists, has decided to constitute 22 executive committees in 22 language zones identified by the research wing of the committee (PCC), which include Bhalessa, Bhaderwah, Saraz, Saroor, Pogal Paristan, Padder, Dachan Marwah, Malhori, Sarsi Daryan, and other linguistic areas mentioned in different research studies.
