Germany Issues Travel Warning for Several Middle Eastern Countries Amid Escalating Regional Tensions

Germany’s Foreign Ministry has issued a travel warning for multiple countries in the Middle East, citing heightened security risks following recent military developments in the region.

The advisory strongly discourages travel to Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The move comes as airspace closures, missile exchanges, and retaliatory strikes disrupt civilian movement across the area.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, the German Foreign Ministry updated its travel and security advisories on February 28, 2026, in response to the rapidly deteriorating situation. The warnings advise German nationals against non-essential travel to these nations due to the volatile security environment, potential for further military actions, and risks including missile attacks and airspace restrictions. Official German sources emphasize that the situation remains highly unpredictable, with possible sudden escalations affecting civilian safety and international travel.

The advisory follows joint military strikes by the United States and Israel on targets in Iran, which prompted Iranian retaliatory missile and drone attacks on Israel and U.S.-affiliated sites in several Gulf countries. Reports indicate that explosions and interceptions occurred in locations including Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. Iran’s actions targeted facilities hosting U.S. assets, leading to condemnations from regional states and further airspace shutdowns.

Multiple airlines have suspended or rerouted flights as a direct consequence. Lufthansa, Germany’s flagship carrier, halted operations to and from Dubai and Abu Dhabi over the weekend, while extending suspensions to routes involving Tel Aviv, Beirut, Amman, and other destinations through early March. Other carriers, including Qatar Airways and Emirates, faced grounding due to temporary airspace closures in affected countries. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency recommended avoiding flights over the impacted zones amid ongoing operations.

The German government has urged its citizens in the region to register with the official system for Germans abroad, monitor local authority instructions, and prepare for limited consular support if commercial travel options diminish. Earlier advisories had already discouraged travel to Israel in full, with expansions now covering broader Gulf states. The ministry highlighted risks of rapid deterioration, including potential further closures of air routes connecting Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Regional governments have responded variably. Saudi Arabia condemned strikes affecting its allies’ sovereignty, while Jordan reportedly intercepted incoming missiles. The broader conflict has triggered widespread flight disruptions, stranding travelers and prompting calls for de-escalation from European nations including Germany, France, and Britain.

Travelers planning journeys to the Middle East are advised to consult the latest updates from the German Foreign Ministry and relevant aviation authorities. The advisories stress vigilance, avoidance of public gatherings in high-risk areas, and preparedness for sudden changes in security conditions. As military activities continue, the potential for prolonged travel interruptions remains significant across the listed countries.
