The Meteorological Department has predicted erratic weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir, including the Chenab Valley, from Friday until April 10. This forecast anticipates potential fluctuations in temperature and precipitation.
Kashmir Faces Unpredictable Weather Pattern
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a spell of wet weather in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir. This includes the possibility of light to moderate rain and snowfall in the plains and higher altitudes of the Kashmir valley and the Chenab region. According to the forecast, the erratic weather pattern is expected to persist until April 10.
Details received by The Chenab Times indicate that while the plains may experience intermittent rain, higher elevations could witness snowfall. This could lead to temporary disruptions in road connectivity in some mountainous areas. Authorities are advising residents and travellers to stay informed about weather updates and exercise caution.
The MeT department has attributed the anticipated change in weather to a fresh western disturbance approaching the region. Western disturbances are extratropical storms that originate in the Mediterranean region and travel eastwards, bringing significant weather changes to the Indian subcontinent, particularly during the winter and spring months. These systems are known for causing rain, snowfall, and a drop in temperatures.
Residents of the Chenab Valley, comprising districts like Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban, are particularly advised to prepare for the changeable weather. The region, known for its hilly terrain, is susceptible to landslides and road blockages during periods of heavy rainfall or snowfall. Local administrations have reportedly been put on alert to manage any emergent situations and ensure the safety of commuters and residents.
The fluctuating weather is also likely to impact agricultural activities in the region. Farmers are often advised to take necessary precautions to protect their crops from unseasonal rain or frost. The exact intensity and spread of the precipitation will be closely monitored by the meteorological office.
The forecast comes at a time when spring is beginning to set in across the Union Territory. The expected weather system could bring a temporary chill and disrupt the transition to warmer temperatures. Further updates on the weather pattern will be issued by the IMD as the situation evolves.
