A horrific late-night road accident on the national highway near Phagwara has left a student from Lovely Professional University (LPU) in critical condition. The incident occurred when the student’s scooter collided with a parked truck that was reportedly stationary in the middle of the road.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the accident took place as the student was returning from the university campus. Poor visibility conditions and the unexpected obstruction on the highway are believed to have contributed to the collision. The rider failed to maintain control of his scooter, leading to a severe impact with the stationary truck from behind.
Preliminary reports suggest the truck had been left unattended on the highway after it ran out of diesel. Investigations indicate that the vehicle was parked without adequate warning signals, posing a hazard to oncoming traffic. The scooter rider, who was reportedly travelling at a high speed, was unable to avoid the stationary vehicle, resulting in his serious injuries.
A team from the Road Safety Force (SSF) promptly arrived at the scene following the accident. With the assistance of local residents, the injured youth was immediately transported to the Civil Hospital in Phagwara. He is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries.
During the initial inquiry, the truck driver, identified as Niranjan, stated that he was en route from Goraya to Ludhiana when his vehicle became immobile due to a lack of fuel. He admitted to leaving the truck on the road while he went to a nearby fuel station to procure diesel. In a significant development, the driver also reportedly confessed to being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Following the accident, the police took swift action to remove the truck from the highway, thereby restoring normal traffic flow. The matter has been officially reported to the concerned police authorities. Officials have indicated that further legal proceedings will be initiated based on the driver’s statement and the forthcoming medical examination reports. A case has been registered in connection with the incident.
