Jammu & Kashmir Chapter of Ambedkar Chamber of Commerce Launched, Union Minister Urges Entrepreneurship

JAMMU, April 25: The Jammu and Kashmir chapter of the ‘Dr. Ambedkar Chamber of Commerce’ was formally launched in Jammu today, with Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh presiding over the inaugural ceremony. The event, held at Jammu University, underscored the importance of fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among Scheduled Castes (SC) and other weaker sections of society to leverage government initiatives.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the need for a proactive approach to entrepreneurship and investment, moving beyond a sole reliance on government employment. He highlighted the comprehensive support system established by the current government for marginalized communities, including SCs and STs, designed to provide assistance from an early stage.

The Union Minister detailed a series of targeted schemes introduced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government aimed at the socio-economic upliftment of weaker sections. Among these, the Jan Dhan scheme was cited for its role in financial inclusion, the MUDRA loan scheme for facilitating access to credit, and the Vishwakarma Yojana for preserving traditional crafts and creating sustainable livelihoods.

Dr. Jitendra Singh presented statistical evidence suggesting a positive impact of these schemes on the advancement of Dalits and other marginalized groups, noting a tangible increase in their aspirations and success in competitive examinations, including civil services. He also referenced the elevation of an Adivasi woman to the position of President of India as a significant indicator of social empowerment.

Furthermore, the Minister stressed the critical need for increased awareness regarding government welfare programs to ensure their widespread reach and effectiveness. Initiatives such as Vigyan Jyoti, which aims to promote scientific temper and innovation among girls, were also brought to the fore.

Regional outreach efforts were also discussed, with Dr. Jitendra Singh mentioning Khadi promotion camps in Udhampur district where substantial subsidies were distributed. He observed that a significant number of beneficiaries hailed from the Kashmir Valley and reiterated the necessity of expanding awareness about such opportunities across all regions.

The Minister enumerated various schemes dedicated to supporting marginalized communities, including pre-matric and post-matric scholarships for SCs, STs, and OBCs, Dr. Ambedkar scholarships, and the National Fellowship for OBCs in biotechnology. He also pointed to inclusivity grants under the National Research Foundation, Rozgar Melas for employment opportunities, the Venture Capital Fund for SCs and OBCs, and the Ambedkar Innovation and Incubation Mission.

Region-specific initiatives such as the Aroma Mission, designed to offer alternative and sustainable livelihood options, and Science Technology Innovation Hubs, which have a substantial proportion of SC beneficiaries, were also highlighted.

In a separate announcement made to the media, Dr. Jitendra Singh confirmed that the Vande Bharat Express service connecting Jammu and Srinagar would commence operations from April 30, with an increase in the number of coaches. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for prioritizing infrastructure development in Jammu and Kashmir, noting the accelerated progress in recent years that has improved connectivity and integrated the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the nation.
