Jammu and Kashmir: EOW Kashmir Files Chargesheet in Land and Job Fraud Case

SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet in a significant fraud case pertaining to fraudulent promises of land allotment and government jobs in the region.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the chargesheet, registered under FIR No. 84/2022 and Section 420 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), has been submitted before the Court of Judge Small Causes in Srinagar. The accused, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Gani Bhat, a resident of Astanpora Tailbal, Hazratbal Srinagar, is alleged to have defrauded multiple complainants.

According to the details of the investigation, the accused allegedly duped several individuals in January 2019 by obtaining substantial sums of money. He had made false promises of arranging Jammu Development Authority (JDA) land in Jammu and securing government employment for their relatives. However, Bhat reportedly failed to fulfil either of these commitments, leading to the filing of complaints.

Following the complaints, the EOW Kashmir initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. The probe concluded that the accused had intentionally deceived the victims and dishonestly extracted money from them based on these false assurances. The findings established the offence of cheating under Section 420 RPC.

Based on the collected evidence, which confirmed the fraudulent nature of the transactions, the chargesheet has now been presented to the competent court for judicial proceedings. The filing of this chargesheet marks a significant step in the legal process against the alleged economic offender.

The Crime Branch has issued an advisory urging the general public to exercise caution and remain vigilant against economic fraudsters who prey on unsuspecting individuals. Citizens who encounter or have information regarding similar incidents have been advised to report them to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) EOW Kashmir, Abdul Waheed Shah, or to submit their complaints via email at sspeowkmr@jkpolice.gov.
