A 41-year-old woman from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, has lodged a complaint with the police, claiming her family is deliberately obstructing her marriage, allegedly to evade financial responsibilities. The woman alleges years of harassment and familial opposition to her marital prospects.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that Madhuri Patel, a resident of Manapur village in the Sarai Inayat area, stated in her police complaint that despite her desire to marry, her brother and sister-in-law have consistently rejected all potential proposals. She asserts that this opposition stems from the family’s reluctance to bear the expenses associated with a wedding.
The complainant further alleged that her brother has transferred the family’s land assets into his own name. She claims he has not undertaken any responsibility for facilitating her marriage. In her formal complaint, Ms. Patel named her father, mother, brother, sister-in-law, and sister as the individuals involved in this alleged familial obstruction.
Ms. Patel has reportedly been living separately from her family for the past two decades and has been self-supporting through her work during this period. She also leveled accusations of verbal abuse, persistent mental harassment, and instances of physical assault against her family members.
According to details within the complaint, a specific incident involved family members allegedly barging into her room and assaulting her.
In her appeal to the authorities, the woman requested the police to assist in arranging her marriage to a suitable partner, expressing a desire to lead a respectable life.
The local police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Officials have stated that further actions will be determined based on the findings of their inquiry.
