SRINAGAR, May 31: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday described the law and order situation in West Bengal as “appalling” following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory in the recent state assembly elections.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Mufti, in a post on the social media platform X, expressed her dismay at the perceived deterioration of public order in West Bengal. She stated, “The sad deteriorating law & order ever since BJP won the West Bengal elections is appalling to say the least. Where neutral institutions like the police are now being weaponised to turn a blind eye as murderous assaults are orchestrated against political opponents like Abhishek Banerjee.”
Mufti’s remarks came in response to an incident involving an attack on Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee by a group of individuals. The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir asserted that the current state of affairs was not the outcome that the people of West Bengal had voted for in the assembly polls.
She questioned the narrative of change, adding, “Is this the change people of West Bengal voted for? Certainly not.” The political commentary from the PDP chief highlights concerns over the political climate and the functioning of law enforcement agencies in the eastern state.
