Three young siblings drowned after venturing into a pond for a bath in Chhani village, Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. when the children’s mother was washing clothes by the Amrit Sarovar pond.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the mother, Parvati, wife of Ramesh Shrivas, had taken her three children to the pond. While she was engaged in washing clothes, her sons Shivendra, aged 10, and Rudransh, aged 8, along with their 5-year-old sister Mandavi, entered the water to bathe.
Tragically, the children are reported to have moved into a deeper section of the pond, where they began to struggle. Their mother, noticing their distress, raised an alarm, prompting villagers to rush to the scene.
Local residents managed to pull the three siblings out of the pond. They were immediately transported to the Community Health Centre in Chhani. Medical personnel at the centre pronounced all three children dead upon arrival. Police officials stated that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The Binwar police station in-charge, Nand Ram Prajapati, confirmed the details of the incident. The local administration has initiated an inquiry into the circumstances that led to the children being in a position to drown in the pond. Investigations are ongoing to determine if there were any lapses in supervision.
Such incidents, while often attributed to accidental drowning due to varying water depths or lack of supervision, cast a shadow over community safety measures, particularly in rural areas where natural water bodies are common. The tragedy highlights the constant need for vigilance when children are near water sources.
The village of Chhani, situated within the Binwar police station’s jurisdiction, is now mourning the loss of the young siblings. The post-mortem reports are expected to provide further clarity on the incident, aiding the police in their ongoing investigation. The authorities are working to ensure that all necessary procedures are followed to provide closure to the grieving family.
