The Deputy Commissioner articulated that the administration has committed itself to the eradication of drug abuse from society, characterizing ‘chitta’ not merely as a law-and-order concern but as a profound social challenge necessitating the unified efforts of all societal segments. He outlined that the campaign will feature extensive awareness programmes conducted at the panchayat level, aiming to educate young people about the severe repercussions of drug abuse and to channel their energies into constructive activities.

Further details provided indicated that the police, health, education, and social justice and empowerment departments, in conjunction with elected public representatives, will undertake door-to-door outreach initiatives within villages. These efforts are intended to disseminate crucial information regarding the perils of drug addiction and to offer support to those affected.

The campaign will also incorporate various engagement activities designed to reinforce the message of drug-free living. These include the organization of oath-taking ceremonies, awareness rallies, sporting competitions to promote healthy lifestyles, street plays to convey messages through artistic expression, and interactive dialogue sessions to facilitate open discussions on the issue.

Shimla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gaurav Singh, reported on the continuous and effective actions being undertaken by the police force against drug trafficking. He noted that the anti-narcotics drive has been significantly intensified this year, yielding substantial results in curbing the illicit trade. According to the SSP, as of the current year, 159 cases have been registered across the district under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This intensified enforcement has led to the arrest of 337 individuals implicated in drug-related offenses.

The multi-pronged approach by the Shimla administration signifies a determined effort to address the drug problem through a combination of stringent law enforcement, widespread public awareness, and community engagement, seeking to build a stronger defense against drug abuse at the grassroots level.
