The depth of the earthquake, while significant, played a role in the extent of tremors felt over a wide geographical area. Earthquakes originating at greater depths can sometimes propagate seismic waves further, impacting regions far from the epicentre. The National Center for Seismology continuously monitors seismic activity across the Indian subcontinent and surrounding regions, providing crucial data for early warning and response efforts.

The region of Kashmir, situated in a seismically active zone, is prone to earthquakes. Geological studies indicate that the Indian tectonic plate is in constant motion, interacting with the Eurasian plate, which contributes to the frequent seismic events in the Himalayan and surrounding areas. Authorities have consistently advised residents in earthquake-prone zones to be prepared with emergency kits and to follow safety guidelines during seismic activity, such as the “drop, cover, and hold on” technique.

Officials stated that a thorough assessment of any potential indirect impacts would continue. The focus remained on ensuring public safety and monitoring the seismic situation. The occurrence of the earthquake serves as a reminder of the region’s geological vulnerability and the importance of ongoing preparedness measures by both authorities and the public.
