The Pratham Puja is traditionally organized by the Amarnath Shrine Board at the Holy Cave on Jyeshtha Purnima as a ceremonial precursor to the annual pilgrimage. The ceremony on Monday was attended by several senior officials, including Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Special Director General (Coordination) SJM Gillani, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board Mandeep K Bhandari, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, Managing Director JKPDCL and Nodal Officer for the Baltal Axis Rahul Yadav, Inspector General of Police Kashmir VK Birdi, Deputy Inspector General, Central Kashmir Range, Rajiv Omprakash, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Jatin Kishore, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, and Director Information Shreya Singhal.

The Amarnath Cave, located in the Trikuta Mountains of the Himalayas, is a significant Hindu pilgrimage site. The annual Yatra attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees who undertake the arduous journey to offer prayers at the naturally formed ice lingam of Lord Shiva.

The logistical planning for the Amarnath Yatra involves extensive coordination between various government agencies and security forces. This includes ensuring the safety and security of pilgrims along the routes, managing crowd control, providing medical facilities, and ensuring the availability of essential services. The participation of the local community and volunteers is also considered crucial in the successful organization of the pilgrimage.

The administration has emphasized its commitment to providing a spiritually enriching and secure experience for all pilgrims. The upgraded infrastructure includes enhancements to the tracks leading to the Holy Cave, accommodation facilities, and communication networks. The Lieutenant Governor’s participation in the Pratham Puja signifies the official commencement of preparations and the commencement of the pilgrimage itself, signaling readiness for the influx of devotees.

The annual pilgrimage is a cornerstone of religious tourism in Jammu and Kashmir and plays a vital role in the local economy. The administration aims to balance the spiritual significance of the Yatra with the logistical challenges of conducting it smoothly and safely amidst the mountainous terrain.
