Three individuals have been apprehended in connection with a road rage incident on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway where a motorist was assaulted. The incident, which occurred on Sunday night near Maddur, gained widespread attention after a video of the assault went viral on social media.
According to reports, the altercation began following a minor collision between two vehicles near the Srirangapatna toll plaza. The occupants of one vehicle, after assessing the damage to their car, pursued the victim’s vehicle. They intercepted the motorist and proceeded to assault him, with his family present inside the car.
The assault was captured on the dashcam of a vehicle travelling behind, providing graphic evidence of the confrontation. The video footage shows several men surrounding the victim’s car, forcing the driver’s door open, and physically assaulting the driver. The victim’s wife was seen attempting to intervene in the altercation.
The Mandya district police confirmed the arrest of three individuals—identified as Santhosh, Arun, and Abhinandan, all in their mid-twenties to mid-thirties—on Tuesday. Two other suspects, Venkatesh and Pratap, are reportedly still at large, and a search is ongoing to apprehend them. The arrested individuals have been produced before the JMFC court, and authorities are seeking custody for further investigation.
The victim, identified as Sagar Kumar, a 37-year-old assistant manager at BMRCL, filed a complaint with the police on Monday. Both the victim and the accused are residents of Bengaluru. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including assault and criminal intimidation. Police are continuing efforts to locate and arrest the remaining accused.
The incident has raised significant concerns about road safety and the prevalence of aggressive behaviour on the busy Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway. Authorities have previously indicated plans for safety upgrades on the corridor amidst a concerning number of accidents. The viral video has intensified calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and measures to curb such incidents of road rage.
