Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has underscored the state’s commitment to environmental conservation by launching a significant sapling plantation initiative. This drive aims to further bolster the green cover across Uttar Pradesh, building upon the substantial reforestation efforts undertaken in recent years.
The Chenab Times has learned that the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of these initiatives in combating environmental degradation and promoting ecological balance. The latest drive is a continuation of the state’s sustained focus on increasing its forest and tree cover, a key aspect of its environmental policy.
The campaign, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to action, saw the successful planting of five crore saplings on June 5, coinciding with World Environment Day. This specific initiative, themed ‘Ek Pedh Maa Ke Naam’ (A Tree in Mother’s Name), encourages citizens to plant trees in honor of their mothers, fostering a personal connection to environmental stewardship.
Last year, the state had achieved a remarkable milestone by planting over 35 crore saplings. This extensive effort contributed to a cumulative total of 242 crore saplings planted across Uttar Pradesh over the past nine years. These figures represent a significant investment in the state’s ecological future and demonstrate a consistent, long-term approach to afforestation.
The Chief Minister highlighted the direct impact of these widespread plantation drives on mitigating climate change effects, improving air quality, and preserving biodiversity. The initiative is not merely about planting trees but about cultivating a culture of environmental responsibility among the populace, encouraging active participation in conservation efforts.
The extensive program involves various governmental departments, local bodies, educational institutions, and Non-Governmental Organizations, creating a broad-based movement for greening the state.
