SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo has directed government departments to expedite the implementation of recommendations aimed at enhancing facilities and pilgrim safety at the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra base and transit camps. The directives followed a high-level review meeting focused on improvements suggested by Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) after their assessments along the Yatra route.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the meeting was convened to discuss the findings and proposals from CAPF teams, who conducted ground assessments during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026. These recommendations cover a range of facilities extending from Lakhanpur, the entry point to Jammu and Kashmir, up to the Holy Cave Shrine.
The review meeting saw the participation of senior officials representing the civil administration, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), police, CAPFs, BRO/Beacon, divisional and district administrations, and other relevant departments. The Chief Executive Officer of SASB, Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, presented the detailed observations and recommendations compiled by the CAPF teams.
Administrative secretaries and deputy commissioners provided updates on the current status of the implementation of these recommendations and outlined the timelines for completing the pending works. The reviewed proposals include significant upgrades to accommodation and essential amenities at both base and transit camps, with a focus on improving sanitation and hygiene standards across all facilities.
Strengthening firefighting arrangements was also a key point of discussion, alongside measures to ensure tent waterproofing and the provision of reliable power and water supply to pilgrims. Officials further deliberated on enhancing hygiene at community kitchens, commonly known as langars, and improving washroom and bathing facilities. The meeting also addressed the reinforcement of drainage systems and the implementation of safe electrical wiring practices within the camps to mitigate the risk of accidents.
Further discussions focused on strategies to optimize queue management, prevent overcrowding at various points, and streamline traffic movement along the Yatra route. The expansion of parking facilities and the establishment of additional rain shelters at vulnerable stretches were also emphasized to ensure pilgrim comfort and safety during adverse weather conditions.
Chief Secretary Dulloo underscored the paramount importance of pilgrim safety and well-being, directing all concerned departments and district administrations to thoroughly examine each recommendation and ensure its prompt and effective implementation. He stressed the need for sustained coordination among various agencies to continuously monitor progress and address any shortcomings identified during the ongoing pilgrimage.
The Chief Secretary also called for regular progress monitoring and the proactive resolution of any issues to further bolster arrangements for future Yatras. The aim is to create a safer and more comfortable pilgrimage experience for all devotees undertaking the journey to the Holy Cave Shrine.
