The Chief Minister’s comments came after authorities demolished the houses of two alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba militants in Anantnag during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The demolitions followed the shooting death of head constable Ashiq Hussain in the south Kashmir district.

Officials identified the militants whose houses were razed as Adil Thokar and Haroon Rashid Ganaie, both described as active members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit. The razing of their residences occurred hours after the fatal attack on the police officer.

Abdullah recalled a similar incident in April 2025, following an attack in Pahalgam, where houses were demolished. He stated that he had to intervene with the Central Government to halt such actions at that time.

He reiterated that efforts to curb militancy must be conducted in accordance with established legal frameworks. The Chief Minister maintained that violence cannot be effectively ended without actively engaging and securing the support of the local populace.
