SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has assigned an additional responsibility to IAS officer Avny Lavasa, granting her the charge of the Tribal Affairs Department.
The Chenab Times has learned that a government order, issued by the General Administration Department on Sunday, details the new assignment. Avny Lavasa, an Indian Administrative Service officer of the 2013 batch (AGMUT cadre), currently serves as the Secretary to the Government in the Transport Department. She also holds the additional charge of Administrative Secretary for the Hospitality and Protocol Department.
In addition to her existing portfolios, Ms. Lavasa will now oversee the Tribal Affairs Department. This decision has been made in the interest of administrative expediency, according to the official order.
The order further states that Ms. Lavasa will hold the additional charge of the Tribal Affairs Department until further orders are issued. The move aims to streamline administrative functions and ensure continuous oversight of the department’s operations. The Tribal Affairs Department plays a crucial role in the development and welfare of tribal communities across Jammu and Kashmir, focusing on education, economic empowerment, and preservation of cultural heritage.
The administration’s decision to entrust Ms. Lavasa with this additional charge reflects her proven administrative capabilities and her experience in handling significant governmental responsibilities. Her tenure in the Transport Department and her oversight of Hospitality and Protocol are expected to bring a focused approach to the Tribal Affairs Department.
The Tribal Affairs Department is responsible for implementing various schemes and policies aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of Scheduled Tribes in the Union Territory. These include scholarships for students, financial assistance for livelihood generation, and infrastructure development in tribal areas. The department also works towards safeguarding the distinct cultural identity and traditions of tribal populations.
This administrative reshuffling comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to optimize governance and ensure efficient delivery of public services. The precise timelines for further orders regarding this additional charge have not been specified, indicating a flexible approach based on administrative requirements.
