Srinagar, August 26: Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), was observed with widespread religious fervor across Kashmir on Wednesday. Thousands of devotees converged at the Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar and other mosques and shrines throughout the valley to participate in prayers, recitations, and special sermons commemorating the Prophet’s birth.
The largest congregation took place at the Hazratbal shrine, situated on the banks of Dal Lake. Devotees, including men, women, and children, spent the preceding night in prayer and reflection, engaging in Quran Khwani and ShabKhawani. Special discourses were held, highlighting the life, teachings, and compassionate message of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Similar religious gatherings were observed in major mosques and shrines across the valley, fostering an atmosphere of deep devotion and remembrance.
The occasion, observed on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awal, marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The main public event on Wednesday was scheduled to take place at the Hazratbal shrine, with day-long prayers and the display of the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) after each prayer drawing significant numbers of devotees from across Jammu and Kashmir.
Authorities had put in place elaborate arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the festivities. Coordination meetings involving various departments, including the police, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Health Department, Power Development Department, Traffic Police, and Transport Department, were held to finalize provisions for sanitation, electricity, healthcare, traffic regulation, and public transport. Traffic advisories were issued, and special parking arrangements were made around the Hazratbal shrine to manage the influx of visitors.
Markets surrounding Hazratbal and other shrine areas experienced increased activity as vendors offered prayer caps, perfumes, sweets, and other items relevant to the occasion. Streets leading to the shrine were adorned with banners featuring messages in praise of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), contributing to the festive ambiance.
Religious leaders and clerics delivered sermons emphasizing the Prophet’s emphasis on mercy, compassion, tolerance, patience, and brotherhood. Many devotees expressed their hopes for peace, prosperity, and well-being for the region during their prayers. The celebrations underscored the spiritual significance of the occasion, with a strong sense of community and shared faith evident among the participants.
