Jammu, August 28: The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is set to receive its third Vande Bharat train, which will operate between Jammu and Srinagar, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr Jitendra Singh, announced on Friday. This development is anticipated to significantly benefit the residents of the region.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Ministry of Railways has also approved a demand for a halt at Udhampur, a decision described as particularly noteworthy given earlier assessments that such a stop might not be feasible. Dr Singh extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Railways, and the Railway Minister for facilitating this expansion of rail services.
The Minister highlighted the substantial progress in extending railway connectivity across Jammu and Kashmir, noting that it took nearly five decades for the railway network, established in Jammu in 1972, to advance further into the region. He attributed the accelerated pace of this expansion to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under whom railway connectivity was extended to Kathua, Udhampur, and ultimately the Kashmir Valley.
Connecting the Kashmir Valley by rail was previously considered a formidable engineering challenge due to the mountainous terrain. However, Dr Singh emphasized that the project was successfully completed despite numerous obstacles.
A significant engineering feat highlighted by the minister is the construction of the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River in Reasi district. This project stands as a testament to modern engineering capabilities.
The railway journey itself has become an emerging attraction for tourists, with many visitors opting to travel by train from Jammu to Srinagar specifically to experience the picturesque landscapes along the route. The introduction of additional Vande Bharat services is expected to further enhance the travel experience and boost tourism in the region.
