Srinagar, September 1: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha convened a high-level security review meeting on Friday, assessing the preparedness of the Union Territory’s security apparatus and strategic responses across Jammu and Kashmir.

Gillani, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, ADGP CID M.K. Sinha, IGP Kashmir Sujit Kumar, IGP Jammu Tejinder Singh, IGP Crime Branch Sarah Rizvi, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Inspectors General, and other senior functionaries.

During the deliberations, Lieutenant Governor Sinha directed senior officials to maintain sustained pressure on militant networks and enhance ground-level operational synergy. He emphasized the need for an aggressive area domination strategy aimed at decisively neutralizing emerging threats to peace and stability in the region.

Highlighting the importance of public trust in the effectiveness of the security apparatus, the Lieutenant Governor instructed police officials to foster direct engagement with the populace. This includes designating specific hours for citizen interaction and grievance redressal to ensure a more responsive and accessible law enforcement presence.

The review also focused on the functioning at the police station level, where the Lieutenant Governor underscored the necessity of transparent, impartial, and sensitive complaint handling. He directed officers to conduct investigations with absolute professionalism, ensuring fairness and adherence to legal procedures in all cases.

“The police must maintain a strong and continuous engagement with the public. Every genuine grievance must be addressed with sensitivity and every investigation must be conducted with absolute fairness, transparency and impartiality,” the Lieutenant Governor stated, reinforcing the commitment to community policing principles.

The Lieutenant Governor acknowledged and commended the efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies for their effective actions against drug smugglers. He further directed officials to intensify operations against narco-militant networks, a growing concern for regional security. Enhanced monitoring of emerging digital threats was also stressed, with particular attention to countering anti-national propaganda, digital misinformation, and online blackmailing through close monitoring of social media platforms.

The Director General of Police and the Principal Secretary Home Department provided the Lieutenant Governor with an overview of the overall security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir. Inspectors General of Police, Deputy Inspectors General, and Divisional Commissioners presented detailed briefings on the security situation, counter-militancy operations, law and order maintenance, drug smuggling, and other pressing challenges within their respective jurisdictions.

The meeting featured comprehensive discussions on a wide array of critical security issues. The Lieutenant Governor concluded by instructing all officers to maintain heightened operational vigilance, ensure seamless inter-agency coordination, and adopt a proactive approach to safeguard peace and uphold law and order throughout the Union Territory.
