The Jammu division of Indian Railways has collected a total of Rs 56,46,615 in fines during August as part of a comprehensive ticket checking drive. The operation targeted passengers travelling without valid tickets, those undertaking irregular journeys, and individuals carrying unbooked excess luggage.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the intensified drive, conducted throughout the month, identified 8,106 cases of irregular travel. Officials stated that the initiative aimed not only at revenue generation but also at fostering passenger awareness regarding the necessity of carrying valid tickets and ensuring a more disciplined travel environment.
The ticket checking operations were carried out across major railway stations within the Jammu division, including Jammu, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan, Kathua, and Pathankot Cantt. Additionally, checks were performed on various Mail, Express, and special trains traversing the division, encompassing key stations like Budgam and Srinagar.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of the Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal, emphasized that the drive reflects the division’s commitment to passenger convenience and maintaining railway discipline. He attributed the financial collection to the diligent efforts of the ticket-checking staff.
Singhal further elaborated on the objective of the campaign, stating that it extends beyond punitive measures. The focus is also on educating passengers about the importance of procuring tickets before commencing their journeys. He assured that such rigorous ticket checking drives would be conducted regularly to sustain compliance.
The railway authorities have issued an appeal to all passengers, urging them to travel exclusively with valid tickets and to extend their cooperation to railway officials during ticket inspection procedures. The drive aims to create a smoother, safer, and more comfortable travel experience for all commuters.
