Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir: A tourist succumbed to injuries after a large boulder detached from a hillside and struck a vehicle carrying sightseers on the Khanbal-Pahalgam Road in the Mattan area of Anantnag district. The incident occurred near the Bumzoo shrine on Wednesday.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the vehicle, an Innova bearing registration number JK01AT-8081, was en route from Pahalgam to Anantnag with six tourists on board when the mishap took place. The sudden fall of the boulder from the elevated terrain caused significant damage to the vehicle.
An official statement indicated that while one tourist sustained grievous injuries, the other occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, escaped unharmed. The injured individual was promptly transported to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag for immediate medical attention. However, attending doctors pronounced the tourist dead upon arrival at the facility.
The deceased has been identified as R Himansu Prasad Rao, son of R Pala Krishna Rao, hailing from Ganjam in the state of Odisha. The incident has prompted authorities to take cognizance, with the local police initiating an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal event.
