Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stated that an individual seen in a viral video allegedly engaging in the molestation of a woman during a protest in Srinagar is not associated with the party. The party issued a clarification on Sunday, condemning the incident and urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified information.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the J&K BJP stated that it had conducted an internal cross-verification of information and confirmed that the person depicted in the widely circulated video footage does not have any affiliation with the political party.
The party further explained that during large public gatherings and demonstrations, it is possible for unidentified individuals or those unaffiliated with any particular group to join the proceedings. The presence of such individuals, the BJP asserted, cannot be attributed to or linked with the organizers of the protest or the party itself.
Efforts are reportedly underway to identify the man involved in the alleged molestation, as well as the online platforms or individuals responsible for revealing the woman’s face in the video. The BJP indicated that once the individual is identified, the matter should be allowed to proceed through the legal system without interference.
The Jammu and Kashmir BJP reiterated its strong condemnation of the incident, describing it as reprehensible. The party appealed to the public and media outlets to exercise caution and verify information before sharing, particularly to avoid falsely linking the actions of an individual to the BJP.
The incident has drawn widespread attention on social media, prompting swift action from the J&K BJP to clarify its position and distance itself from the alleged perpetrator. The party emphasized its commitment to upholding law and order and ensuring accountability for any unlawful acts, irrespective of the individual’s affiliations.
