SRINAGAR, Sept 3: Security forces have initiated an operation deep within a forest area of Budgam district in Jammu and Kashmir, officials reported on Thursday.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating the operation was launched following intelligence inputs about the movement of suspected militants. The group was reportedly moving from Pakherpora in Pulwama district towards Yousmarg, located in Budgam district.
The operation is currently underway in a densely forested region. Due to the terrain, normal communication methods, including cellular phones, are not functional, limiting the immediate dissemination of further details. Authorities are awaiting updates from the ground as the security forces continue their search in the area.
The forest areas in central and southern Kashmir have previously been identified as routes for militant movement and potential hideouts. Security forces regularly conduct search and cordon operations in such regions to disrupt militant activities and maintain security. The specific details regarding the number of individuals involved or their affiliations are yet to be officially confirmed.
This operation in Budgam comes amidst ongoing efforts by security agencies to enhance counter-militancy operations across the Union Territory. The focus remains on preventing infiltration and neutralizing militant presence, particularly in areas that offer natural cover and are difficult for security personnel to access.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the Indian Army and Central Reserve Police Force, often collaborate in these extensive operations. The primary objective is to ensure the safety and security of civilians and to uphold peace and stability in the region. The specific forest sector where the operation is taking place is known for its challenging topography, making reconnaissance and engagement complex.
Officials stated that the operation is progressing cautiously, with emphasis on the safety of the security personnel involved. Once the situation is fully under control and the area is secured, more comprehensive information is expected to be released. The investigation into the suspected militant movement will likely continue to identify any potential support networks in the vicinity. The success of such operations is crucial in disrupting the operational capabilities of militant groups active in the region.
