Kishtwar, Oct 2: A Special Gram Sabha was held at Panchayat Halqa Dugga in Block Drabshalla on Friday, with the participation of villagers, including women, youth, senior citizens, former Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members and officials from various line departments.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the meeting was presided over by Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Kishtwar Manoj Kumar (JKAS), along with Block Development Officer Drabshalla Sandesh Kumar (JKAS) and Panchayat Secretary Dugga Imtiyaz Khan.
During the Gram Sabha, participants were briefed on the preparation of the Viksit Gram Panchayat Plan (VGPP), aimed at developing a long-term vision for village development. Residents were encouraged to identify local needs, highlight development gaps and contribute suggestions for the formulation of a five-year perspective plan under the VBGRAM-G initiative.
The meeting also discussed the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), with officials explaining the planning process and the role of Gram Sabha recommendations in determining works and development schemes at the panchayat level.
Awareness was also created about the Reform Utsav initiative, and villagers were encouraged to actively participate in ongoing reform-related activities.
The Gram Sabha emphasized the importance of sanitation and cleanliness, urging residents to maintain public hygiene, ensure proper waste management and keep the village surroundings clean.
Participants were informed about the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), with officials explaining key aspects of the new criminal procedure law and its relevance for citizens.
The meeting also focused on the prevention of child marriages. Residents were urged to follow the legally prescribed age of marriage, oppose the practice of child marriage and report any such incidents to the authorities.
Concern was expressed over the growing issue of substance abuse among youth during discussions on the Nasha Mukt programme. Participants called for collective efforts by parents, PRIs and the wider community to promote a drug-free society.
The Gram Sabha concluded with a vote of thanks to all participants and officials for their attendance and contributions.
