A 17-year-old student from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, died on Tuesday after falling from a hillside near Rohtang Pass in Himachal Pradesh. The incident occurred while the student was on an educational trip with his schoolmates.
The Chenab Times has learned that the deceased, identified as Ruder Kumar, was a Class 11 Commerce student at Brightland School in Govindpuram, Ghaziabad. The group of students was visiting the popular tourist destination when the accident took place.
According to initial police reports, Ruder Kumar had ventured towards a hillside adjacent to the Rohtang Pass to capture photographs. While attempting to take pictures, he reportedly lost his footing and fell from the elevated terrain, sustaining fatal injuries.
Emergency services and local authorities were alerted following the incident. The body was subsequently recovered and transported for a post-mortem examination. Police have stated that further legal proceedings and actions will be determined based on the findings of the post-mortem report and the completion of other necessary formalities.
An investigation has been initiated by the local police to thoroughly ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the tragic fall. The school authorities have also been informed of the incident, and arrangements are being made to repatriate the student’s body to his hometown in Ghaziabad.
The Rohtang Pass, a popular mountain pass on the eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, is a significant tourist attraction known for its scenic beauty. However, its steep terrain and unpredictable weather conditions also pose inherent risks to visitors, especially in areas away from established paths.
