The estate of Elvis Presley has initiated legal action against artificial intelligence company Anthropic, alleging the firm unlawfully utilized a vast collection of the iconic singer’s music to train its AI models. The lawsuit, filed on Friday, claims that Anthropic’s actions constitute copyright infringement.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the legal filing asserts that Anthropic’s AI systems were trained on approximately 274 songs associated with Elvis Presley. These include some of his most recognizable hits, such as “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” “A Little Less Conversation,” and “Don’t Be Cruel.” The suit was reported by Billboard.
The core of the legal challenge centers on allegations that Anthropic, a prominent developer of AI technologies, incorporated copyrighted musical works without proper authorization or licensing. The estate contends that this unauthorized use of Presley’s music for commercial AI training constitutes a violation of intellectual property rights.
