Doda Authorities Revoke Circular; Non-Veg Food Consumption Now Allowed

Doda, 1 July — The district administration of Doda had earlier issued a circular banning the consumption of non-vegetarian food items on the premises of educational institutions—both schools and colleges. The circular was introduced in response to requests from several parents, stakeholders, and community members concerned about the use of non-vegetarian meals during school functions. Additionally, it stated that the presence of non-vegetarian food items often led to the non-utilization of mid-day meals.

As a result of these grievances, the authorities enforced a ban on the use of non-vegetarian food items during school functions as well as on regular school days.

However, on June 30, the Deputy Commissioner of Doda revoked the earlier circular, thereby allowing the consumption of non-vegetarian food items in schools, colleges, and other educational institutions across the district. The latest order officially rescinds Circular No. DCD/PA-01/25/639-77 dated June 27, 2025, as accessed by The Chenab Times.

Interestingly, a comparison between the two orders reveals a notable difference, suggesting that the revocation was influenced by political authority. The earlier order had neither informed nor sent a copy to the office of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir. In contrast, the fresh order that rescinds the ban includes a copy marked to the Chief Minister’s office, indicating involvement or approval at a higher level.
