J&K High Court to Hear Continuation of Arguments in AAP MLA Mehraj Malik’s Detention Case Today

Jammu — The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh at Jammu will continue arguments today in the habeas corpus petition filed by detained Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Din Malik challenging his detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

According to details received by The Chenab Times, the case (HCP No. 139/2025) came up before Justice Mohd Yousuf Wani on November 20. Senior advocate Rahul Pant, assisted by advocates S.S. Ahmed, M. Apu Singh Slathia and M. Zulkarnain Chowdhary, presented arguments for over an hour, contending that the grounds of detention are illegal.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the proceedings could not conclude due to a large number of cases listed that day. Justice Wani directed the listing for continuation of arguments on December 4 and ordered the detention record to be made available on the next date of hearing.

Malik, the AAP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit president and MLA from Doda East, was detained on September 8 under PSA for allegedly disturbing public order during relief operations following heavy rains and flash floods in Doda district. He was lodged in Kathua jail and filed the petition on September 24, seeking his release and ₹5 crore in compensation.

Senior Additional Advocate General Monika Kohli appeared for the Union Territory of J&K and others. No further updates from the court were immediately available.
