SRINAGAR: Security forces at the Nunwan Base Camp for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra have detained a suspected Over Ground Worker (OGW) following an alert from a Facial Recognition System (FRS) deployed by the Anantnag Police. The system flagged an individual during the standard security screening process, leading to their apprehension.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the alert was generated at an X-ray screening point within the Nunwan Base Camp. Security personnel immediately intercepted and verified the identity of the individual in question.
The detained individual has been identified as Mohd Iqbal Wani, son of Ali Mohammad Wani, a resident of Hajin in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir. Subsequent verification confirmed his involvement as an Over Ground Worker (OGW). Wani has been taken into custody for further legal proceedings and a detailed investigation.
Officials stated that this interception highlights the efficacy of the Facial Recognition System, which is a crucial component of the comprehensive, multi-layered security measures established to ensure the safe and secure conduct of the annual pilgrimage. The system is designed to enhance real-time surveillance and strengthen access control.
According to Anantnag Police, the FRS has significantly bolstered real-time monitoring capabilities, improved access control protocols, and enabled the swift identification of potential security threats during the pilgrimage.
