Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated on Sunday that the Mahayajna Dharma Sammelan in Baramulla signifies a spiritual renewal for the region and conveys a message of harmony, national unity, and peaceful coexistence from Jammu and Kashmir to the rest of India.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Sinha, addressing the religious gathering in Baramulla, highlighted the event’s role in reviving the town’s centuries-old legacy as a hub for culture, spirituality, and intellectual discourse.
“For many centuries Baramulla remained a gateway of culture, a confluence of ideas and a great centre of spiritual knowledge. Through today’s Mahayajna Dharma Sammelan we are reviving our glorious heritage of Baramulla,” Sinha remarked, underscoring the historical significance of the location.
The Lieutenant Governor described the yajna as embodying selfless sacrifice and collective responsibility within the Sanatan tradition. He noted that the prayers and teachings associated with the event offer a universal message of peace and goodwill, particularly relevant in a global context marked by increasing divisions and conflicts.
Sinha emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir’s spiritual heritage has endowed the region with a distinct identity, and the land has consistently demonstrated respect for all faiths. Referencing the ancient Sanskrit prayer “Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu” (May all beings be happy and healthy), he asserted that India’s spiritual traditions have consistently promoted compassion, inclusiveness, and coexistence.
The head of Jammu and Kashmir’s administration further elaborated that India’s civilizational values encourage individuals to perceive divinity in every person, irrespective of differences in language, caste, region, or customs. He characterized the Mahayajna Dharma Sammelan as a reflection of the nation’s ingrained tradition of unity in diversity.
Advocating for a value-based society, Sinha appealed to the younger generation to uphold principles of brotherhood, patience, compassion, and selfless service. He also stressed the imperative of environmental conservation, framing it as a spiritual responsibility.
“Our ancestors revered rivers as mothers, trees as life-givers and the Earth as a mother goddess. We must preserve nature and leave the planet in a better condition for future generations,” he stated, linking ecological preservation to ancestral reverence and future well-being.
The Lieutenant Governor also underscored the importance of safeguarding Jammu and Kashmir’s distinct languages, literature, arts, and cultural traditions, emphasizing the need to transmit the wisdom of past generations to the youth. He expressed optimism that young Indians would integrate innovation with moral values, demonstrating the synergistic progression of modernity and spirituality.
The Mahayajna Dharma Sammelan was attended by notable figures including Padma Shri Brij Lal Bhat, Principal Secretary Culture Brij Mohan Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid, DIG North Kashmir Range Vinod Kumar, SSP Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh, Maharishi Kashyap Colony president Shivanand Rohit Raina, along with various religious leaders, members of civil society, and a large contingent of local residents.
