Students from Himachal Pradesh have voiced deep-seated concerns regarding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) controversy, emphasizing the urgent need for fairness, transparency, and accountability in the examination system. Their submissions highlight the immense stress and anxiety faced by millions of aspirants who dedicate years to preparing for the crucial medical entrance examination.

These students, many of whom are repeat candidates or pursuing higher education while aiming for medical school, expressed a sense of betrayal and frustration over recurring allegations of irregularities in the NEET process.
Students Call for Open Dialogue and Sensitivity
Isha, a B.Sc-I student from Government College, Dharamsala, stated that the NEET controversy has escalated serious questions about the integrity of the examination system. She emphasized that allegations of irregularities shake students’ confidence and cause significant distress, especially when their future hangs in the balance. Isha believes the central government should engage more openly with students, addressing their concerns with urgency and sensitivity rather than appearing dismissive of genuine grievances. Restoring trust, in her view, necessitates transparent investigations, swift action against those found culpable, and reforms to ensure equitable opportunities for all deserving students.
A NEET dropper, Mannat Chauhan from Shimla, underscored the immense dedication, sacrifice, and emotional resilience required to prepare for NEET. The recent controversy has profoundly impacted students like her, not due to isolated incidents but because irregularities are becoming an unsettling norm. The student suicides linked to NEET-related stress are described as heart-breaking and unforgettable. Chauhan also noted that the police action against protesting students at Jantar Mantar further fueled concerns about whether legitimate voices are being heard. She posed a critical question about accountability when the futures of millions are at stake, expressing solidarity with individuals like Sonam Wangchuk who are peacefully advocating for justice. The demand, she clarified, is not for sympathy but for transparency, accountability, and an educational system worthy of trust.
Frustration and Anxiety Amongst Aspirants
Ayushi Kaundle, a B.Sc-III student at Vallabh Government College, Mandi, pointed out that the NEET controversy has become a significant national concern for students. The protests witnessed at Jantar Mantar, she noted, reflect the growing frustration and anxiety among students who invest years in preparation. Kaundle asserted that every hardworking student deserves a fair and transparent opportunity based on merit, and any irregularity in such a critical exam erodes trust in the system. She urged authorities to ensure enhanced accountability, robust security measures, complete transparency, and prompt action to safeguard the fairness of the examination process, stressing the importance of a reliable education system for India’s youth.
Aarzoo Chandel, pursuing BA Final from Dharamsala, expressed deep sadness over the government’s perceived inaction amidst the political turmoil surrounding student deaths. She criticized politicians for not showing empathy for the young lives lost, instead engaging in what she termed lampooning by evading accountability. Chandel argued that these students did not perish by chance but due to systemic flaws. The NEET controversy, in her assessment, has transcended being a mere exam scandal to become a national reckoning, exposing a system that is often stacked against the students it purports to serve. She lamented that NEET, intended to assess knowledge, has increasingly tested privilege and the capacity to endure negligence.
Calls for Reforms Beyond Political Maneuvering
Radhika Pundir, a B.Voc-III student at Government College, Kullu, described the NEET controversy as a personal betrayal, emphasizing that students’ futures are dependent on these exams, yet the system appears compromised. The detention of activists, including Sonam Wangchuk, for protesting and demanding accountability was described as alarming. Pundir believes the government’s tactic of deflecting attention is a clear attempt to evade discussions about exam integrity. She argued that detaining activists does not resolve flawed question papers or rebuild lost trust. Constructive dialogue and concrete reforms are needed, not political maneuvering. The fundamental issue, she stressed, is securing a future where success is determined by hard work and talent, not by luck or privilege.
Sneha Bhardwaj, a NEET aspirant from Sirmaur, highlighted that the repeated failures of the National Testing Agency (NTA) in ensuring fair examinations have eroded student faith. While acknowledging the government’s effort in conducting a re-NEET examination, she noted the inconvenience caused to students who had to take the test again. Bhardwaj expressed concern that the current controversy has been hijacked by politically motivated individuals attempting to disrupt peaceful protests in New Delhi. She found this approach unwarranted, especially as re-NEET results have been released and the admission process is underway. The situation, she believes, should not be exploited by political opportunists to advance unrelated agendas under the pretext of the NEET issue.
Mehak Attri, a BA pass-out from Government Degree College, Solan, echoed the sentiment that medical admissions must be based strictly on merit, transparency, and fairness. Even minor doubts about the credibility of the examination process generate anxiety and undermine students’ confidence in the system. Attri believes the government and relevant authorities must ensure complete accountability, strengthen examination security, and implement reforms that restore faith. Every deserving aspirant should be assured that their success hinges solely on hard work and talent, not on controversy or uncertainty.
