Kalaburagi, Karnataka – City police in Kalaburagi have arrested two individuals, identified as Syed Jilan (36) and Javed Patel (35), in connection with an incident involving a fake pistol and alleged threats made to staff at a bar and restaurant in Biddapur Colony. The arrests were made following a complaint registered at the Ashok Nagar police station.
According to preliminary reports, the altercation occurred on July 22 when the two accused were patrons at the Beeralingeshwara Bar & Restaurant. While consuming food and beverages, they were reportedly seen spitting gutka inside the establishment's air-conditioned section. When questioned about their conduct by the bar owner's brother, an argument ensued, escalating into a physical confrontation.
During the ensuing scuffle, the accused allegedly produced a fake pistol and threatened the bar staff, including the complainant, before fleeing the scene. The incident was subsequently reported to the police, who launched an investigation. The Ashok Nagar police registered a case, and after a thorough inquiry, a team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Sharanabasappa Subedar apprehended Syed Jilan and Javed Patel from their residences in Iqbal Colony.
The police have seized the fake pistol used in the alleged threat. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and to ascertain the motive behind the possession and display of the replica firearm. While the immediate cause of the altercation was the consumption and spitting of gutka, the escalation to a threat with a fake weapon has prompted a detailed probe.
This incident highlights a recurring issue in the region concerning the misuse of imitation firearms, which can cause significant alarm and pose serious risks, even if non-functional. Earlier in April 2024, Wadi Police in Kalaburagi had registered a case against two youths for posting reels on social media while carrying a fake gun, an act deemed to create unrest. In that instance, the police seized the fake weapon and issued warnings against similar behavior.
The Kalaburagi police have emphasized their commitment to maintaining law and order and have reiterated that strict action will be taken against individuals found involved in criminal activities, particularly those that involve the use of imitation weapons to intimidate or threaten others. The arrests are part of ongoing efforts by the local law enforcement to curb such incidents and ensure public safety within the city.
