Kapurthala: The Cyber Crime Police Station in Kapurthala has registered a case against an unidentified individual for allegedly circulating child sexual abuse material (CSAM) via the social media platform Instagram. Authorities have intensified their investigation and are pursuing legal proceedings to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
Police Act on Information of Illicit Content Circulation
Information was available with The Chenab Times that an objectionable video depicting child sexual abuse was circulated through an Instagram account on March 26, 2026. Following the receipt of this information, the Cyber Crime Police Station initiated an inquiry, which subsequently led to the registration of a case against the operator of the Instagram account responsible for sharing the content. Efforts are currently underway to identify and apprehend the accused party.
Inspector Mandeep Kaur, the Station House Officer of the Cyber Crime Police Station, confirmed the development and stated that stringent action will be taken against anyone found involved in offences related to child sexual abuse material. She emphasized the importance of vigilance among parents and guardians regarding their children’s online activities, urging them to monitor digital interactions closely to shield minors from harmful online content.
The police are actively working to trace the individual responsible for uploading and disseminating the illegal material. This action underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat the spread of CSAM and protect vulnerable individuals online. The investigation is progressing with a focus on gathering evidence and identifying the specific account and user involved in the circulation of the offensive video.
Inspector Kaur also issued a directive to parents, advising them to ensure that children are exposed only to age-appropriate and safe online content. She further advised the public that if they encounter or receive any content involving the sexual exploitation of a child, they should refrain from sharing or preserving it unnecessarily. Instead, such instances should be immediately reported to the police or the appropriate cybercrime authorities to facilitate prompt legal action. The authorities are committed to ensuring the safety and security of children in the digital space and will pursue all available legal avenues to address such offences.
