A Frito-Lay employee was killed by a stray bullet while working inside a Sam’s Club in Nashville, Tennessee, early Sunday morning. The victim, identified as 55-year-old Paris Carlock of Murfreesboro, was conducting product inventory in the chip aisle when he was struck in the head by a bullet that penetrated the store’s metal side wall.
The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on Antioch Pike. Emergency services responded and transported Carlock to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. PepsiCo, the parent company of Frito-Lay, expressed deep sadness over the death and extended condolences to Carlock’s family and loved ones, stating they were working closely with law enforcement. A spokesperson for Sam’s Club also offered condolences and pledged cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
Metro Nashville Police have initiated a homicide investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the gunfire may be connected to an argument that took place at Lavo Lounge, a bar located near the Sam’s Club. According to police, individuals involved in the dispute were removed from the lounge by security but continued their altercation outside. Shots were reportedly fired as vehicles were leaving the vicinity of the bar.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department’s Homicide Unit is actively pursuing leads related to the shooting and the vehicles involved. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could assist the investigation, urging anyone with details to contact Nashville Crime Stoppers. In a separate incident on October 4, 2019, a construction accident at a Frito-Lay facility in Irving, Texas, resulted in the death of another worker. Hernan Murillo, 40, was among three workers on a scissor lift when it collided with other equipment, causing them to fall approximately 30 feet. Murillo died from his injuries, and two other workers sustained serious injuries. A jury later awarded Murillo’s family $71.95 million in a lawsuit against Walker Engineering, the company contracted for the construction work, finding the company liable for the fatal accident.
