Authorities in Delhi have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly storing and transporting a significant quantity of firecrackers without possessing the requisite licence. The seizure, amounting to 66 kilograms of assorted pyrotechnics, was made from a three-wheeler during routine patrolling in the Vijay Vihar area.
The Chenab Times has learned that the incident occurred on Tuesday night when police personnel observed a three-wheeler parked unusually by the roadside, with the driver, identified as Vijender Kumar of Rampura, Delhi, seated inside. Upon inquiry, the driver reportedly failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding his presence or the contents of the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the three-wheeler by the police revealed various types of firecrackers weighing approximately 66 kg. Kumar allegedly admitted to bringing the contraband for the purpose of sale, despite lacking any valid authorization to do so. Officials confirmed that both the firecrackers and the vehicle used for their transportation have been confiscated.
Following the discovery, an First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the Vijay Vihar police station on Wednesday. The case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Explosives Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, indicating the seriousness with which such illegal activities involving potentially dangerous materials are treated. Police have stated that further investigations are currently underway to ascertain the source of the firecrackers and to identify any potential accomplices or broader networks involved in the illegal trade.
The seizure highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in the national capital to curb the illegal trade and storage of firecrackers, particularly in light of safety regulations and licensing requirements. Such unauthorized activities pose significant risks, including potential fire hazards and public safety concerns. The legal framework in place aims to regulate the manufacturing, possession, and sale of explosives and pyrotechnic devices to ensure compliance and minimize dangers. The ongoing investigation is expected to shed more light on the extent of the illegal operation and lead to further actions if warranted.
