Himachal Pradesh: Child Safety Awareness Camps Reach Four Chamba Schools

Chamba, Himachal Pradesh – The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Chamba has organized awareness camps in four educational institutions as part of its week-long ‘Surakshit Bachpan Abhiyan’ (Safe Childhood Campaign). The initiative aims to educate students about their rights, personal safety, and legal protections against exploitation, aligning with directives from the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (HPSLSA).

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the campaign, underway across various schools, focuses on empowering children to identify instances of abuse, report them without fear, and access necessary legal assistance. This comprehensive drive underscores a concerted effort to foster a safer environment for young individuals by equipping them with knowledge and resources.

The campaign extended its focus to address crucial issues such as the prevention of child marriage and exploitation. Students were also educated on the importance of responsible digital behaviour and robust protection against online abuse. Informational sessions detailed the crucial role of legal services authorities in providing accessible legal aid, particularly child-friendly services. A significant aspect of the outreach involved disseminating information about the NALSA toll-free helpline number, 15100, which offers a direct channel for children to seek legal assistance without hesitation. To further reinforce the messages, pamphlets containing essential information on child rights, personal safety guidelines, and available legal protection mechanisms were distributed among the students.

Ekansh Kapil, Secretary of the Chamba DLSA, highlighted the paramount importance of ensuring that children are fully aware of their legal rights and the protective measures available to them. He stated that the core objective of the ‘Surakshit Bachpan Abhiyan’ is to empower children to vocalize their experiences of abuse and to actively contribute to the creation of a secure and nurturing environment for all young individuals. The campaign’s structured approach ensures that information is delivered in an accessible and age-appropriate manner.

The awareness drive is scheduled to continue in designated schools across the district until October 31. The overarching goal of this extended campaign is to significantly strengthen child protection mechanisms through sustained awareness initiatives and by ensuring unimpeded access to vital legal support systems for children in need. This ongoing effort reflects a commitment to the well-being and safety of the younger generation in the region.
